As I see it, clearing saved data removes the previous setting when autoplay was enabled that was saved in the browser. That way, YouTube can’t fall back on this setting, as the only available (or saved) option is the new one with autoplay disabled.

How to stop YouTube from stopping automatically after a while
Personally, I have only experienced the problem in the Google Chrome web browser. However, if you also experience it in the YouTube app on your mobile phone (Android or iPhone), you can also clear the YouTube app data in your app settings.
Find YouTube in the list of apps installed on your device and select it.
Select Storage and click “Clear data” and “Clear cache”.

However, this is not a “final” solution. I’ve even seen other users report that YouTube autoplay kept coming back no matter what browser they were using. As I mentioned before, the problem itself comes from YouTube and is not exactly attributed to any particular browser.
Anyway, since some people (myself included) have not experienced the problem with some browsers, you should also try using another browser and see if the problem persists or not.
Use a different web browser
If you don’t experience the problem with another browser, then you know that you can always continue streaming YouTube in that particular browser. Still, the problem should be solved for you by clearing the data stored in the “faulty” browser as discussed in the method above.
