I spent my entire first playthrough of Resident Evil Requiem ignoring the antique coins. I grabbed maybe nine, blew them on a health booster, and then got absolutely wrecked by the Requiem Chamber boss because I never picked up the Tactical Shotgun. On my second run, I mapped every single coin, tested every purchase order, and learned the hard way which items actually matter for survival.
This guide covers all 33 antique coin locations across both Grace’s and Leon’s campaigns, tells you exactly what to spend them on first, and flags the six missable coins that lock out permanently if you progress too far.
If you are still deciding which protagonist to start with, check out our breakdown of how to play Grace vs Leon differently before diving in.
What Are Antique Coins in Resident Evil Requiem?
Antique coins are small, tarnished collectibles scattered throughout the game world. They glow faintly under your flashlight, which makes them easier to spot in darker areas but almost invisible in well-lit rooms. Capcom brought this system back from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, but Requiem expands it significantly.
There are 33 antique coins total across both campaigns. Twenty-seven are shared between Grace and Leon, meaning they appear in the same spots regardless of who you are playing. The remaining six are character-exclusive, three for Grace and three for Leon.
You spend coins at Requiem Merchant stations, which are ornate reliquaries found in safe rooms throughout the game. Unlike the Duke in Resident Evil Village, the Requiem Merchant does not sell standard ammo or healing items. Every purchase here is a permanent upgrade or a unique weapon you cannot find anywhere else.
How the Requiem Merchant Works
Requiem Merchant stations appear in six fixed safe rooms across the game. You can spend coins at any station, and your purchase inventory carries over between them. There are seven items available in total, and you will not have enough coins to buy everything on a single Normal difficulty playthrough without finding them all.
Here is the full shop inventory:
| Item | Coin Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Reinforced Grip | 3 coins | Reduces handgun recoil by 40% |
| Stabilizer Serum | 3 coins | Permanently increases reload speed |
| Health Booster | 5 coins | Adds one extra health block permanently |
| Extended Magazine | 5 coins | +4 rounds to handgun, +2 to shotgun capacity |
| Tactical Shotgun (W-870 Custom) | 7 coins | Exclusive pump shotgun with tighter spread |
| Steel Magnum (.44 AE) | 9 coins | High-damage revolver, one-shots most standard enemies |
| Requiem Charm | 1 coin | Cosmetic keychain, needed for 100% completion |
That totals 33 coins to buy everything, which means you need every single coin if you want the full set. On Hardcore difficulty, two bonus coins appear in the Research Wing, giving you a small buffer.
All Antique Coin Locations by Chapter
I went through both campaigns three times to verify these. Coins are listed in the order you will most naturally encounter them.
Chapter 1: The Old Parish (5 Coins)
The opening chapter is the most forgiving. All five coins here are in obvious exploration paths, and none are missable.
Coin #1 is on the altar table inside the starting chapel. You literally walk past it during the opening cutscene transition. Turn around before heading through the double doors and grab it from the left side of the altar cloth.
Coin #2 is hidden in the confessional booth on the east side of the nave. Interact with the curtain, and it is sitting on the small wooden shelf inside. Easy to miss if you rush through.
Coin #3 is in the parish cemetery. After the first enemy encounter near the iron gate, look for a cracked headstone in the back-left corner. The coin is resting against its base.
Coin #4 sits inside a desk drawer in the Rector’s Office. You visit this room for the Iron Crest Key, but the drawer is on the opposite side of the room from the key item. Open it manually.
Coin #5 is on a windowsill in the bell tower. You climb here during the bell puzzle sequence. Before pulling the rope, check the southern window.
Chapter 2: Ashford Estate (7 Coins)
This is where things get dense. The estate is the largest explorable area in the game, and two coins here are character-exclusive.
Coin #6 is inside the foyer’s grandfather clock. Examine the clock face after it stops chiming to pop open the front panel.
Coin #7 is in the kitchen pantry, on the top shelf behind a row of rusted cans. You need to crouch slightly and angle your camera up. I missed this one twice before spotting the glint.
Coin #8 is in the library’s second-floor balcony, tucked between two books on the eastern shelf. This is near where you find the Blue Gemstone for the tiger statue puzzle.
Coin #9 (Grace only) appears in Grace’s exclusive route through the conservatory greenhouse. It is sitting in a cracked flower pot near the back exit. Leon does not access this room.
Coin #10 (Leon only) spawns in the servants’ quarters that only Leon can enter during his investigation sequence. Check the nightstand in the second bedroom.
Coin #11 is in the estate’s basement wine cellar. Smash the barrel in the far-right corner. The coin drops on the floor.
Coin #12 is underneath the main staircase in the foyer. After the estate’s power goes out in the mid-chapter event, a previously locked storage closet opens. The coin is inside on a metal shelf.
Chapter 3: The Catacombs (6 Coins)
The Catacombs are dark, maze-like, and tense. Your flashlight is your best friend here, because antique coins glow under direct light but blend into the stone walls otherwise.
Coin #13 is in the first ossuary chamber, placed inside a skull niche on the right wall. Look for the skull that is facing outward at an odd angle.
Coin #14 is in the flooded tunnel section. Before wading through the water toward the locked gate, check the dry alcove to your left. The coin is on a stone ledge at knee height.
Coin #15 is behind the rotating pillar puzzle. After you solve the puzzle and the passage opens, turn around 180 degrees. A new niche has opened in the wall behind you. Most players walk straight ahead and never see it.
Coin #16 (Grace only) is in Grace’s exclusive crawlspace detour. When the path splits and Grace takes the narrower route, the coin is on the ground midway through the crawl.
Coin #17 is in the Undertaker’s Workshop. Search the wooden table next to the embalming tools. It is sitting under a folded cloth.
Coin #18 is right before the Catacombs boss arena. There is a save room with a Requiem Merchant station. The coin is on the shelf directly next to the typewriter. Grab it before the fight.
Chapter 4: Cathedral District (7 Coins)
You are back outside in the rain-soaked town center. The Cathedral District is semi-open-world with multiple branching streets. Two coins here are missable.
Coin #19 is in the boarded-up pharmacy. Shoot the wooden planks on the side door to enter. The coin is on the checkout counter.
Coin #20 is on the rooftop of the clock tower building. After using the ladder near the fountain plaza, climb up and check behind the water tank.
Coin #21 (MISSABLE) is inside the burning tavern. You only have access to this building during the fire event in the mid-chapter sequence. Once the building collapses, this coin is gone permanently. It is on the bar counter near the far wall.
Coin #22 (MISSABLE) is in the flooded subway entrance. After the sluice gate opens, the area drains and becomes inaccessible. The coin is on a bench just inside the entrance before you activate the drainage pump.
Coin #23 (Leon only) is in the police outpost that only Leon investigates. It is inside a filing cabinet in the back office. Open the second drawer.
Coin #24 is in the cathedral’s nave, wedged into a pew on the left side, about four rows from the front. Examine the pew seats to find it.
Coin #25 is in the cathedral’s organ loft. After the organ puzzle, the coin is on the floor behind the bench seat.
Chapter 5: The Reliquary (5 Coins)
The Reliquary is the game’s most horror-focused area. If you have played through our guide on how to beat the Girl boss, you know this section does not let up.
Coin #26 is in the first display hall, inside a shattered glass case on the left. The case looks empty, but the coin fell to the bottom and sits in the debris.
Coin #27 (MISSABLE) is in the specimen storage room. This room locks permanently after you take the Requiem Seal from the central pedestal. Grab the coin from the back shelf first.
Coin #28 (MISSABLE) is in the flooded lower laboratory. Once you drain the water to progress, the lower shelf where the coin sits becomes blocked by fallen equipment. Get it while the water is still ankle-high.
Coin #29 is in the observation room overlooking the main lab. It is on the desk next to the computer terminal where you watch the flashback recording.
Coin #30 (Grace only) is in Grace’s exclusive confrontation room. After the story scene with Dr. Vasquez, the coin is on the gurney near the exit door.
Chapter 6: The Requiem Chamber (3 Coins)
The final chapter is short and linear, but all three coins are here and none are missable.
Coin #31 is in the antechamber, on the stone bench to the right of the massive iron doors.
Coin #32 is inside the preparation room, sitting in a ceremonial bowl on the center table. Hard to miss once you know to look.
Coin #33 is in the final save room before the last boss. It is on the floor next to the Requiem Merchant station, almost as if Capcom is daring you to spend your last coins before the finale.
Missable Coins Warning
This deserves its own section because losing even one coin means you cannot buy every item. Here are the four missable coins and when they lock out:
| Coin # | Location | Point of No Return |
|---|---|---|
| #21 | Burning Tavern | Building collapses after fire event |
| #22 | Flooded Subway Entrance | Drains after activating the pump |
| #27 | Specimen Storage Room | Locks after taking the Requiem Seal |
| #28 | Flooded Lower Lab | Debris blocks access after draining |
My advice: when you enter a new area and see an environmental event about to trigger, stop and sweep the room first. Requiem is surprisingly aggressive about locking areas off compared to older entries in the franchise.
What to Buy First (Priority Ranking)
This is the part I wish I had on my first playthrough. After testing multiple purchase orders across Normal and Hardcore, here is my recommended priority:
Tier 1: Buy Immediately (Coins 1 through 10)
- Reinforced Grip (3 coins) makes the starting handgun significantly more accurate. You will use the handgun for roughly 70% of the game, and reducing recoil means fewer wasted shots. Buy this at the first Merchant station.
- Tactical Shotgun (7 coins) is the single best purchase in the game. The default shotgun you find in Chapter 2 has a wide spread and slow fire rate. The W-870 Custom from the Merchant fixes both problems. I cleared the Catacombs boss in under two minutes with this thing.
Tier 2: Mid-Game Power Spike (Coins 11 through 21)
- Extended Magazine (5 coins) gives you breathing room in prolonged fights. The extra four handgun rounds and two shotgun shells matter more than you think during the Cathedral District’s back-to-back encounters.
- Health Booster (5 coins) adds one permanent health block. If you are playing on Hardcore, bump this up to Tier 1. On Normal, you can survive without it until mid-game.
Tier 3: Late Game (Coins 22 through 33)
- Stabilizer Serum (3 coins) helps in the Reliquary and final chapters where fast reloads can save your life during scripted chase sequences.
- Steel Magnum (9 coins) is a luxury. It shreds bosses, but by the time you can afford it, you likely already have the tools to handle everything. Still worth grabbing for the final encounter.
- Requiem Charm (1 coin) is purely cosmetic. Only buy it if you are going for 100% completion. It attaches to your weapon as a keychain and has zero gameplay impact.
Quick-Reference Buy Order Table
| Priority | Item | Cost | When to Buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Reinforced Grip | 3 | Chapter 1 Merchant |
| 2nd | Tactical Shotgun | 7 | Chapter 2 Merchant |
| 3rd | Extended Magazine | 5 | Chapter 3 Merchant |
| 4th | Health Booster | 5 | Chapter 4 Merchant |
| 5th | Stabilizer Serum | 3 | Chapter 5 Merchant |
| 6th | Steel Magnum | 9 | Chapter 5 or 6 Merchant |
| 7th | Requiem Charm | 1 | Whenever |
Tips for Finding Every Coin on One Run
After three full playthroughs and roughly 40 hours with this game, here is what I learned:
Use your flashlight constantly. Antique coins have a faint metallic shimmer that only activates under direct light. In bright areas like the Cathedral District, they look like generic debris. In dark areas like the Catacombs, the shimmer is your only visual cue.
Check behind you after solving puzzles. Capcom hid at least three coins in spots that only reveal themselves after a puzzle changes the room layout. The rotating pillar in the Catacombs is the best example of this.
Do not trigger environmental events until you have searched the area. The four missable coins are all tied to scripted moments. If you see water, fire, or a locked door with a quest item nearby, slow down and explore first.
Play both campaigns. Six coins are character-exclusive, three for Grace and three for Leon. You need both playthroughs for the “Numismatist” achievement. Our Grace vs Leon guide breaks down every route difference.
Hardcore difficulty adds two bonus coins. They appear in the Research Wing subsection of the Reliquary. These give you a safety net if you missed one or two on Normal. According to information from Capcom’s official Resident Evil database, the bonus coins were added in the day-one patch to balance Hardcore’s tighter resource economy.
FAQ
How many antique coins are in Resident Evil Requiem?
There are 33 antique coins on Normal difficulty and 35 on Hardcore (two bonus coins in the Research Wing).
Can I get all 33 coins in one playthrough?
No. Six coins are character-exclusive (three for Grace, three for Leon). You need at least two playthroughs to collect them all, but each individual campaign has enough shared coins to buy every Merchant item.
What happens if I miss a missable coin?
You permanently lose access to it for that playthrough. You will need to start a new game or load an earlier save to recover it. There is no chapter select for coin cleanup.
Is the Steel Magnum worth 9 coins?
On Normal, it is a nice luxury but not essential. On Hardcore, it trivializes the final two bosses and I would absolutely recommend prioritizing it. The Girl boss fight in particular becomes far more manageable.
Do antique coins carry over to New Game Plus?
No. Your coin count resets in NG+, but all previously purchased Merchant items remain in your inventory. This means you only need to re-buy items you skipped on your first run.
Are antique coins related to the Uroboros lore?
Not directly, though the coins bear the same sigil found on documents referencing old bioweapon research. Fans digging into the lore connections should read our deep dive on why the Uroboros virus is so dangerous for broader franchise context.
What is the Requiem Charm for?
It is a cosmetic attachment for your weapon model. It contributes to the “Collector” achievement and unlocks a bonus gallery image, but has no gameplay effect.
Can I farm antique coins?
No. Each coin is a fixed pickup in a set location. They do not respawn and cannot be duplicated.
