Cyberpunk 2077 Early Access Review

Every so often there is something that can bring everyone’s attention together. These things are often limited to a year in terms of appearances. However, a successful promotion can always make everyone go a little too crazy. That level of hype and fandom is something that all developers would dream of having. The studio CD Projekt Red has managed to attract pretty much every single person with their new game Cyberpunk 2077.

This game has been teased widely for years and years by now. But finally, we can have a chance to actually get our hands on this massive game come November. That date is no more than a month away. This means that the hype train for this game is reaching its outmost peak for both players and reviewers alike.

Before we jump into the beautiful world of the Cyberpunk 2077 game on launch day, however. The studio gave a select few people the chance to playtest some of the opening moments of the game. Although, the 4-hour demo is definitely not enough to satisfy everyone’s craving for more gun-shooting cyber action.

Cyberpunk’s Atmosphere

The world of Cyberpunk 2077 is heavily based on, unsurprisingly, a cyberpunk style future. This would mean that your adventures in this game map would be centered around some of the most breathtaking futuristic cities. The short gameplay demo had shown the amazingly packed features that most AAA games could only dream of doing. This environment is packed with various activities and characters that you can meet and interact with. These NPCs are not just simple mindless A.I. but rather have their own sophisticated scheduling. You can truly feel and embrace each character as they move about in your game.

The map size houses one of the densest arrays of activities and landscapes in gaming history. This is only amplified when you consider the numerous tasks and story missions that you can partake in the game. Night City, which is the name of the map area, is made to be as overwhelming as possible. This is further shown when you finally have a chance to explore the map at your leisure. There are no open fields or blank areas unlike CD Projekt Red’s previous smash-hit, The Witcher 3.

Lastly, the other main takeaway from an environmental standpoint is none other than the game’s amazing variations of characters. These character variations are not limited to just in the main story. Instead, you can see and interact with a host of different numbers of people. These people would vary in height, shape, size, tattoos, and even on body modifications. Each character is designed to be as unique as possible to make players feel the realism. In fact, it is almost impossible to play this game and spot two of the same NPCs in the same area.

Gameplay

The game’s main direction in this game is to be one of the best open-world sandbox RPGs. And that can clearly be seen when playing this game. The world of Night City is filled with various activities that you can partake on. These small little tidbits are made to make the world feel more alive than it already is. You can tell that it took inspiration from the like of Grand Theft Auto V.

That being said, this game is more focused on its action elements. The use of body modifications in both story and gameplay can make quite a difference in gameplay. Couple that with the fact that you have to fight and shoot your way to success can be quite an interesting experience. However, being a cybernetic superhuman does not mean you are immortal. The game contains an elaborate wanted system similar to other open-world sandbox games. This feels like a high-speed and exhilarating movie scene when handling the feds. And this police are programmed to handle cyberpunks such as your character with their own array of gadgets and weapons, all of which are designed to counter with what you have implanted at the time.

You cannot call this an open-world game without some means of transportation. That is why the game would allow you to have your own car to traverse around the parts of the city. Although, your car cannot be used to explore every nook and cranny as alleyways are too narrow. However, you are allowed to steal a car from other people on the road. Do note that stealing can trigger a wanted star to pop up on your radar. Hence, you must think carefully about handling your risks versus rewards.

Cyberpunk 2077 Unique Elements

Shooting, driving, hacking, and fighting are your 4 fundamental components in the game. You can expect all of these components to work seamlessly with each other. Some of these components, however, are not entirely shocking in terms of breaking ground. The sneaking system is similar to other games in the past with crouch-walking and hiding bodies in containers. But the real winner in this aspect is the added inclusion of the hacking system.

This futuristic world involved almost everything there is to do about technology. That would mean that it is easy to expect that gameplay systems such as hacking should make an appearance. And that specific system is granted to us early on in the game. You start off by using your ability to use a target location’s cameras to your advantage. Once you start progressing through the story and gaining experience, you can now earn more hacking abilities. These abilities can range from bypassing security systems to breaking your opponents’ tech-based weaponry.

Braindances is a system that is surely captivating for most people who have seen and played the demos. This is another unique feature that involves your character jumping into the memories of another NPC. These can range from the enemies that you beat, to the people that you failed to save. It was originally invented for pornographic use but your character utilizes it in a more practical manner. This would mean that you have the opportunity to learn more about each character that you managed to interact with. In addition, you can even collect these braindances from NPCs that you decide to kill voluntarily. That is one way to progress through a story if you want to do a genocide-like run on your playthrough.

Customize Your Character From The Ground Up

Full-blown sandbox RPGs are often filled with options for the player to personalize their character. Needless to say, that option is also available for those that are seeking to play some Cyberpunk 2077. This is shown with how the game’s pleasantly surprising robust characters creation engine. You can customize everything from your character’s hair, looks, tattoos, and even certain body modifications.

Your character’s interactions with the various NPCs are somewhat choice dependent. This creates a fluid dynamic with how the interactions that you have with other NPCs and players. You can even see how some of your actions would change the way certain people would react to your presence. This feature just further amplifies your gaming experience.

The variations in characters are not just restricted to how you look, it can also be noticed when inspecting your enemies. Each character in the game is designed to look differently from another. That would mean that you can get a fresh perspective on each playthrough that you do. There are even gang outposts that you can overtake by slogging through an intense gunfight. However, each of these outposts would have unique looking NPCs with even more unique styles of fighting. That would make every encounter feel fresh and exciting every time you play the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements

The game is breathtaking to look at. There is no doubt that this game would be considered one of the most gorgeously designed games to be released. That is why it is normal for most people to assume that the game would require a beefy computer to even attempt to run at minimum settings. Fortunately, the studio CD Projekt Red had announced that the bare minimum spec would be an Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 3GB or  AMD Radeon RX 470. Bundle that with an 8GB of ram and either an Intel Core i5-3570K or AMD FX-8310 to run minimum system requirements.

However, the recommended system requirements would need to entail at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD Radeon R9 Fury. This is actually surprising considering that this is already the recommended system requirements. That would mean that you can easily afford to play this game at its rated recommended settings. Of course, you would need to pair that graphics card with an Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G and 12 GB of ram to make the game run as smoothly as possible in recommended settings.

Final Opinion

Overall, this game is highly sought after for a reason. Cyberpunk 2077 is considered to be one of the best upcoming games for this generation. And it seems as though the studio behind it, CD Projekt Red, will show everyone what the future of gaming is all about. There is plenty of things to love about this game and I for one would be first in line to play this game. As far as the reviews go it would seem that the crisp gameplay is worth enough the price admission.

There is a lot to expect in the overall final product of the game. CD Projekt Red had managed to create another masterpiece along with the levels of The Witcher 3. I do believe that this game would definitely be a top contender when it comes to the game of the year awards. As for the feeling of the game’s release, there is little to doubt that the game would spare no expense in making it as big of a blockbuster game as it could possibly be. The storytelling is simple but has the potential to be interesting. Couple that with excellent vivid exploration and characters and you got yourself one hell of a game.

Check out the game when it officially drops in stores on November 19, 2020. This game is available to play on Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. A version made for ps5 is also on its way in a separate release pack.
